Primer Terms of Use

1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account or using Primer ("the Service"), you agree to these Terms. If you are creating an account for a child under 18, you represent that you are their parent or legal guardian.
2. Description of Service
Primer is an AI-powered educational platform that generates personalized lessons, practice activities, and assessments for K–12 students. Content is generated by artificial intelligence and reviewed by automated quality checks not by a licensed teacher or therapist.
3. AI-Generated Content
Lesson content, practice questions, assessments, and chat responses are generated by AI models. While we employ safety guardrails and quality checks:
- AI-generated content may occasionally contain errors.
- Content does not constitute professional educational, medical, or therapeutic advice.
- Parents are responsible for reviewing lesson plans and can modify, approve, or reject content at any time.
4. Not a Replacement for Professional Services
Primer is a supplemental learning tool. It does not replace:
- Licensed teachers, tutors, or educational specialists.
- Medical professionals, therapists, or diagnostic assessments.
- IEP/504 plan accommodations mandated by your child's school.
Accommodation settings based on learning differences (e.g., dyslexia, ADHD) adjust lesson formatting only and do not constitute a clinical intervention.
5. Account & Access
- One parent/guardian account manages one or more student profiles.
- Parents control all student-facing settings including AI chat access, lesson approval, and content preferences.
- Student accounts are not independently created they require a parent account.
6. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the platform for any purpose other than educational use for your child(ren).
- Attempt to bypass safety guardrails or content filtering.
- Share account credentials or allow unsupervised access by unauthorized users.
- Use the service to collect data about other users.
7. Children's Privacy (COPPA)
Primer complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We collect only the information necessary to provide personalized educational content. Key points:
- We collect your child's first name, grade level, birthdate, learning preferences, assessment responses, and chat messages (if enabled).
- Learning context including first name, grade level, interests, learning preferences, lesson responses, and chat messages is sent to one or more third-party AI providers to generate and adapt personalized lessons, grade work, and power Curiosity and in-lesson help. We may use multiple AI providers and may change providers over time; in every case they are contractually bound not to use your child's data for advertising or to train their own models.
- We do not use your child's data for advertising, marketing, behavioral profiling, or AI model training.
- You can review, export, or request deletion of your child's data at any time from Settings or by contacting support@primer.institute.
- You can revoke consent and deactivate your child's account at any time.
8. Data & Privacy
- Data is scoped per-family and protected by role-based access.
- We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
- Active account data is retained while the account is active.
- Deleted accounts are purged within 30 days.
- You can export or delete your child's data yourself from Settings → Privacy & Security at any time.

9. Billing, Trials & Cancellation
- Primer is a paid subscription billed per active student seat. The price and billing frequency are shown before you enter payment details.
- Each paid student seat includes 1,000 credits per month (roughly 100 lessons, at about 10 credits per lesson). Credits used beyond the monthly allotment are added to your next invoice.
- New accounts may include 200 risk-free credits (about 20 lessons) to try Primer. Your saved payment method is not charged until those credits are used; paid billing begins only once you continue beyond them.
- You can cancel anytime from Settings → Billing. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; access continues until then.
- Adding or removing a student changes the number of paid seats and adjusts your next invoice accordingly.
10. Intellectual Property
AI-generated lesson content is provided for your personal educational use. You may not redistribute, resell, or commercially exploit generated content.
11. Service Availability
Primer is provided "as is." We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or that AI-generated content will be error-free. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features at any time.
12. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Primer and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the Service, including reliance on AI-generated content.
13. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms. Continued use after notification of changes constitutes acceptance. Material changes will be communicated via email or in-app notice.
